The importance of a Urine Separator in a composting toilet

We are often asked why composting toilets don't smell. The secret is simple. Number one and number two are kept separate so there is no unpleasant anaerobic bacteria activity which produces the dreaded "long drop" smell. Urine separation is the single most important factor in any composting toilet.

We designed the Enzell urine separator ourselves to divert the urine away from the solids and keep your compost toilet odor free and easy to clean and maintain. We know from our own experience that particularly for women it can be tricky to get everything in the right place so a lot of time was spent researching, testing and modifying the urine catchment section. It is also important to have as large a hole as possible for the number two's.

From the positive feedback from our customers and our own extensive experience in using the toilet in our campers we reckon we have got it right for both male and female users. Another huge advantage of our toilets is the continuously running fan extracting smell when the toilet is being used....a big plus in a tiny space!

The diverter is vacuum molded to form a seamless hygienic bowl.  The process involves heating an ABS sheet then applying vacuum to form it over an aluminium mold. One side of the ABS has a tough super shiny Acrylic surface which is why it is very easy to keep clean. The photos show our local manufacturer Cebelio operating the vacuum forming machine and a production run of completed bowls ready for final assembly at Enzell.
